Rebuild an ACE practicum plan after a mentor withdraws

Record the last date of activity, hours submitted, hours accepted, pending entries, completed assignments, project status, reason the mentor ended participation, and whether the organization remains willing to host the student. Ask the current ACE course team what documentation is needed and which work, if any, remains usable after the change.

Do not assume that signed time, project work, or an earlier mentor approval transfers automatically. Public ACE pages describe the courses and practice requirements but do not publish one universal replacement rule. Obtain a written case-specific answer before calculating the remaining schedule or telling a new mentor how many hours are required.

Preserve professional communication with the former mentor and organization. Ask only for records or signatures the course process requires, and avoid assigning fault in outreach to a replacement. A concise factual summary gives ACE, the organization, and the new candidate a clearer basis for handling the transition.

Both current ACE MSN pathway pages publish a separate 50-hour NUR5043 practice experience plus a 150-hour selected capstone in NUR5094 or NUR5194. Those components sum to 200 hours. Only RN-to-MSN expressly labels each focus as a 200-hour practicum experience; neither capstone is a 200-hour course. A replacement brief should identify the exact active course, not copy the total from a different pathway.

If the student is in NUR5094, the replacement needs to fit a healthcare organizational setting and collaborate as a nurse-leader mentor while the student applies leadership and management strategies. If the student is in NUR5194, the replacement must support the nurse educator role in an academic or clinical practice setting and the required scholarly project.

Ask whether the existing project remains feasible with a different mentor or site. A project designed around one department's access, data, learners, or leadership may not transfer intact. The new candidate should understand the current objective, but ACE and the organization decide whether revisions are necessary.

If the organization remains supportive, first determine whether it can identify another qualified mentor in the same environment. That may preserve site access and part of the project context, but it still requires the current ACE and organization review. Do not present an internal handoff as automatically approved.

If the mentor remains unavailable and the site cannot replace the role, search for a new physical mentor and organization together. ACE's nursing career guide describes an in-person practicum, so the replacement plan should identify a repeatable location, schedule, state, and organization contact. Expand the radius only when the student can sustain the full trip.

Keep parallel prospects separate. Track mentor role, physical address, setting, project access, weekly capacity, dates, public credentials, organization contact, and current decision status. Stop describing a lead as available when the mentor or site has not confirmed continued interest.

A departing mentor may offer occasional video calls or off-site project help, but that offer does not establish countable ACE practicum activity.
